Nowadays, people are actively using social networks. However, many people neglect their rights and responsibilities when using social networks.

For example, everyone has the right to express their opinions, but this right is limited by laws prohibiting defamation or calls for violence. For example, the Communications Act 2003 provides for liability for offensive or threatening publications on the Internet. For this, you can get a fine or even a lawsuit.

The same applies to privacy. People publish a lot of information but do not pay attention to privacy and distribute information without permission. According to the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), users have the right to control their personal data, request its deletion or amendment, and know how it is used by companies. Using someone else's material without permission can lead to legal consequences under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. For example, publishing someone else's photos, videos or texts without indicating the author or permission can lead to fines or legal proceedings.

The next thing to think about is the abundance of fake information on social networks. The UK is actively fighting fake news and manipulation on social networks. For example, the legislation provides for liability for the dissemination of false information that can influence public opinion. Therefore, before you want to publish something, you should check the information.

Each social network has its own rules of use, which are aimed at creating a safe online environment. So follow the rules of the platforms you use (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) in order not to block your account for violating the policy. Thus, by understanding your rights and responsibilities, each user can make the Internet safer, respecting others and preserving their own reputation.
